By the Word of Their Testimony
Revelation 12:11 (KJV) - “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
Paraphrased: We, as true believers in Christ, are gaining the victory over Satan, as well as over our own sinful natures, by having accepted the life of Jesus Christ, and then sharing our experience of restoration as a witness of God’s love and power to save lost sinners. We are making progress and winning converts, only because we came to despise our previous worldly lives and determined to completely surrender our self-wills -- dead to sin -- living fully for Christ.
Revelation 12:11 is a powerful reminder that we are in a great spiritual battle as part of the war between Christ and Satan. The good news of God’s Word in this text is that “in Christ” we can win our battles. We can be victorious, because God has made provision for our salvation to be secure in Christ. By His strength we can make it through, if we choose to stay loyal to Him and endure to the end.
Violence and destruction in the world tempt us to despair. But God’s Word assures us that we can prevail. How? By being cleansed and transformed by the blood of the Lamb and proclaiming through our lives and our words that God is mighty to heal and to save.
But the battle rages on as we continue to look for that blessed hope -- Christ's soon return to rescue His faithful believers. Until then, we are called to be victorious and to share our testimony with our fellow servants, not only to encourage and edify each other, but also to spread the Good News and attract more and more lost sinners into the kingdom of God.
Our Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, Your Son secured our victory on the cross, and He proves it every day in our hearts and lives. Give us the strength to always stand firm in Christ for the truth. We surrender our wills to You and to Your work for expanding Your kingdom. We ask this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
